Following up from their good form shown in pre season testing and the World Superbikes, Sunstate Racing's Judd Greedy and Tim Durie have shown they are going to be in the title hunt after an impressive start to the season at Eastern Creek on the weekend.
After Qualifying on Friday Judd found himself a respectable
sixth, behind the three Factory Yamahas, Factory Honda and Factory Suzuki.
After falling back to eighth after the start in Race One, Judd battled through the field to fourth until he made a small mistake coming onto the straight with two laps left to run resulting in Josh Waters on the Factory Suzuki passing him back, relegating him to fifth.
In Race Two Judd again didn't get away to the best of starts
and was forced back to ninth. Again he made progress through the field and finished a credible fifth once again.
' I didn't do myself any favours today, the boys out the front were setting a fast pace and when I lost touch at the start in both races I knew I wouldn't be able to challenge for the lead', said Judd.
'All things considered it has been a good start to the season, the Dunlop tyres worked awesome and being the first Honda and first privateer over the line shows that with a bit of work we'll be able to give these boys at the front a hurry up before long', quoted Judd.
Tim Durie was equally impressive in the Superstock field, a start from the second position of the grid was an exceptional beginning to the 2008 racing season.
Race one started off with a familiar greeting in the superstock class of a red flag situation and a full re-start. With a second start Tim did not get off the line as he would of liked being swamped by riders in the first turn and leaving him in sixth position, with a hard race ahead of him he reclaimed fifth position where he sat for the remainder of the race not being able to catch the leading group that had broke away from
him.
Race two was a change of pace for Tim as he managed to hold his grid position of second into the first lap. It wasn't long until he found himself in the lead of the field and in a fierce battle with the pole position sitter Jamie Aiken.
With a spectacular battle between them Tim finished over the line on second place just one tenth of a second behind the leader.
"It was a hard fought race with Jamie, not being able to match his speed down the straight I had to work extra hard through the tight sections of the track to stay in the battle for the lead" Tim said.
With the final race under way on Sunday afternoon, there was another red flag re-start due to a crash in turn two on the first lap.
Another good start from Mitchell Pirotta left Tim in third
position in a shortened five lap race, it was a drag race to the finish as the three found themselves in a great battle again. "Trying every move in the book I managed to find a way around Mitch and close the gap from the leader, but unfortunately with a shortened race it just wasn't enough to take the first position and I had to watch the Kawasaki take
another win by a few hundredths of a second" quoted Tim.
With a second placing over all in the first round of the Australian Superstock championship, it was a good start to the season and hopefully it is going to be this exciting all year.
