Symmons Plains Race Report

Judd Greedy and Tim Durie both 5th in Championship after Round 6

After two podium finishes at the previous round Sunstate Racing’s Judd Greedy was looking to continue with his end of season progress at the sixth round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Symmons Plains.

After the first qualifying session Judd found himself lying fifth on the grid and chose to sit out the second session to save his allocated tyres for the two races on Sunday.

Race One was a two part race and after combined times Judd finished in fifth position. ‘I just couldn’t quite match the pace of the boys out front, I didn’t have a bad start but I made a few small mistakes in the top hairpin and I lost touch with the group and had to settle for fifth’.

In Race Two Judd was again just of the back of the leading four riders and finished a strong fifth. ‘Well I would have liked to place better this weekend but all things considered we didn’t do too bad this weekend, its been over two years since I have been here and its even colder then I remembered, who’d live here!!’ quoted Judd after the second race of the weekend.

After the weekends results Judd has now moved to fifth overall in the Australian Supersport Championship and is leading the Privateers championship with just one round left to run.

Tim Durie, no longer in unfamiliar territory on the GSXR600, started a good weekend at Symmons Plains Raceway by steadily moving up the leader board on Friday’s free practice.  Qualifying was not as successful with Tim struggling to find a clear lap in the largely populated Superstock field, around a track that took sub 60 seconds to complete. Nevertheless Tim managed to place himself in 7th position on the grid.

Race one took place on the Friday afternoon with Superstock being the last class to grid up. Tim got off to a great start going into the first turn in 5th position. Fighting to keep his position around the flat out kink he found himself in a comfortable 6th place by the first lap. Keeping his head down Tim was determined not to let the lead pack slip out of sight and crossing the finish line in 5th place.

Race two was a repeat, with a good start Tim made one place going into the first corner. Only to find himself in a dog fight battle with the Yamaha rider Des Darby all race long. Completing the 8 lap stint Tim Finished in 7th position picking up vital championship points.

Race three was under way and with a thinning out Superstock field. Only this time Tim didn’t have the best start having to fight his way back though the field. Narrowly missing out on 6th place over the finish line Tim was delegated to another 7th place finish.

“Not being able to compete in many races in Tasmania I am happy with my end result of  7th position. With a little more time on the Suzuki I am confident it will be possible to run with the lead group of Superstock riders at my home round of Eastern Creek.” claimed Tim.
