Judd Greedy Wins Australian Supersport Privateer Cup
After qualifying on the front row at the recent MotoGP support races Judd has ended his 2008 campaign in style winning the Supersport Privateers Cup and finishing 3rd outright at the final round of the Australian Superbike Championships held at Eastern Creek.
The first qualifying on Saturday was very close with the top six riders being separated by less then four tenths of a second with Judd in sixth.
The second qualifying session on Saturday afternoon saw the track temperature rise close to fifty degrees and with that the track lost grip and most riders chose to sit out the session. ‘ It would have been nice to have been on the front row and I thought we were pretty safe but with five mins to go I got shuffled back onto the second row and with the track so hot there was virtually no hope of setting a better time in the second session’, said Greedy.
Race One on Sunday Judd didn’t make the best of starts and fell back into twelfth when getting tangled with a few riders over the back of the track. After a series of consistent laps Judd made his way through the pack eventually finishing fourth. ‘It was a real shame that I got tangled up at the start but I’ve got no one to blame but myself because I had shocking start, but the GSXR worked brilliantly on and off line allowing me to get back up to fourth’, quoted a fairly satisfied Greedy after Race One.
In Race Two Judd had a much better start and moved from fifth up to fourth fairly quickly and set his sights on the leaders. A trio of riders broke away at the front, consisting of Attard, Waters and Judd as they swapped paint before Judd eventually got the better of the two and hit the lead with 6 laps to run. Judd then strung a series of fast and consistent laps together to lead by two seconds with just two laps to run. Then the unthinkable happened and half way through the lap his handlebar came loose making the bike almost unrideable and he moved back through the field eventually finishing third.
"To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. The team have worked so hard all year and I really wanted that win to thank them for all their hard work. The track was extremely slippery but the team worked hard on a setting that would work in those conditions and the GSXR600 was so easy to ride out there that I knew that I would be able to pull away once I hit the lead. It’s just a shame not to be able to get a win at the end of the season but third overall is a still a good result and now we know that we can run at the front I’m just hanging for next season to start"said Greedy.
Superstock racer Tim Durie was out to impress on the GSXR 600 in Fridays practice sessions being in the top 5 all day. On Saturdays qualifying session Tim managed to find some pace lapping in The high 1 Min 39 Sec barrier but unfortunately so had everyone else in the large Superstock field. This left Tim in 11th place on the grid.
On Saturday Race 1 was held in blistering heat for all the riders and Tim was out to impress but unfortunately with a bad start he was delegated back to 12th place in the first turn. With some good racing and some very big moves he managed to fight his way back to 7th place by the finish line. On the start of Sunday’s racing it was looking to be a very hot day again. Race 2 was not so good for the Superstock racer with a bad start he was made to fight for every place managing to get back up to 9th position by the end of the race. Race 3 was a change of pace for Tim with a great start up to 8th place in the first lap he was on a mission, but unfortunately he could only manage to gain an extra place before the chequered flag came out. Leaving him in 7th position and 7th place overall for the day.
“With the field being so close on lap times and the weather being hot it made the racing very tight throughout the whole field. And I had a great time racing with everyone in the super stock class at the last round of the series. I also have to say a big thanks to all the people at Sunstate racing, without these people none of this would of been possible.” Said Tim.
The Sunstate Racing team would like to say a big thank you to their sponsors for 2008 and look forward to even more success in 2009.
